Australia is likely to be the most popular place to go scuba diving. Great Barrier ReefThis is due to the location of the fabulous Great Barrier Reef. This reef is so large, that it is the only ocean structure that can be seen from outer space. The story goes that even if you make two dives for every day of your life, you will still not be able to explore the whole of the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is also said to have the largest biodiversity of any reef on earth. Whatever the theories, there is absolutely no doubt that it is a great place to go to when you love scuba diving. Everything you want to see and do during a dive is available in the Great Barrier Reef: small and extremely large marine creatures, most types of dives and technical, wreck or very deep dives. You can go for a fun dive, a dive course or stay on a liveaboard dive boat. Luckily, over the last couple of years the Australian government has decided to protect much larger parts of the Great Barrier Reef. Hopefully, this will help to preserve this great phenomenon. Other Australian dive destinationsEven better, there are many excellent dive spots to be found outside the Great Barrier Reef. If you love adventurous diving, you can dive with sharks (yes, great whites) on Australia’s West Coast. There are also exiting places to dive on the South Coast, between Melbourne and Adelaide, where the warm and cold gulf streams meet. This creates the ideal haven for marine creatures you won’t find anywhere else, such as the weedy sea dragon. You can dive virtually anywhere around the continent and you will have absolutely no trouble to find a dive school. As Australians take their diving seriously, many dive schools are fully certified and well able to teach you and guide you. |
